MEMORIES FROM NIGER

March 2006. The story of an expedition to Niger, chasing the solar eclipse

Niger is an extremely poor country, even when compared to the African standard. 80% is covered by sand, the Sahara desert. Much of the non-desert areas are threatened by the period of drought and desertification. The economy is concentrated around subsistence, some agricultural exports grouped in the more fertile south and the export of raw materials, especially uranium.
